Hours of search – dead couple recovered from rubble of fire

On Friday evening, a detached house in Seewalchen caught fire. Because the building was completely demolished, the emergency services were only able to enter the house on Saturday afternoon. The two residents – an elderly couple – could only be recovered dead.

Shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, the fire brigade reportedly received an alarm: fire in a residential building in Seewalchen am Attersee. The extent quickly became apparent – the single-family home was fully engulfed in fire. 16 fire brigades and around 200 emergency services went out on a large scale operation and fought the flames all night long. Above all, the question was: Where are the two residents? A 61-year-old woman and her 64-year-old husband have been missing since the fire broke out. Only more bodies were found. The flames demolished the house so badly that the emergency services were only able to gain access to the house on Saturday afternoon. The fears were confirmed: the elderly couple could not save themselves from the flames in time. Around 2 p.m., the helpers first discovered the body of the 61-year-old woman. About an hour later, her 64-year-old husband was also found dead. Cause of the fire unclear. The fire brigade was able to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring houses. On Saturday morning, the emergency services were busy lifting rubble from the attic with a crane. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
