House of the Dragon: A throne of lies – this is how the “Game of Thrones” prequel deviates from the book template!

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon may be based on George RR Martin’s book Fire and Blood, but it finally tells the true story of the Dragon Dance.

  • “House of the Dragon” tells the story of the Targaryens, 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones”.
  • Westeros fans already know the story of the series from the book “Fire and Blood” by George RR Martin.
  • But while the book contains a subjective summary of events, the series tells the objective truth.

Back to Westeros: In House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones fans finally experience the civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons” that ultimately led to the disintegration of the mighty House of Targaryen. While “Game of Thrones” and the novels already hinted at these events, it was the book “Fire and Blood” that told the full story of the Targaryens.

Like the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, Fire and Blood was written by George RR Martin, but Fire and Blood is not a novel, it is non-fiction fiction written by Archmaester Gyldayn was written. Of course, in this retelling of historical events, the delicacy found in a novel is lost.

Thus, Martin deliberately incorporated inaccuracies, incorrect information, or slightly judgmental statements into “Fire and Blood” because the book does not represent the truth, but rather Archmaester Gyldayn’s version of the truth.

So while the main plot of “House of the Dragon” is already fixed and everyone can read in “Fire and Blood” how the story ends for the main characters, the course of events is still open. “House of the Dragon” still has a few surprises in store, even for Westeros connoisseurs.

For example, Alicent Hightower, a former friend and later rival of Rhaenyra Targaryen, is considered scheming.

One can understand why this is so. The woman who whispers in the ear of a powerful man has never been written positively. So the fun was finding the nuances.

Ryan Condal, one of the showrunners of “House of the Dragon”, therefore hopes that the series will be seen more as a companion work to “Blood and Fire”, an objective retelling of the events. George RR Martin, who continues to work on the last two Game of Thrones novels, has already praised House of the Dragon, so he gave his nod to any changes.

On August 21, 2022 “House of the Dragon” starts in the USA on HBO, on the night of August 22 you can also see the first episode on Sky Q or Wow, before it runs linearly on Sky Atlantic in the evening. You have to wait much longer for the planned spin-off about Jon Snow, which is only in the development phase.
