House of the Dragon: Does the second episode show us one of Daenerys’ dragon eggs?

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON

In the second episode of “House of the Dragon”, Daemon Targaryen steals a dragon egg that looks suspiciously familiar. Will the powerful dragon Drogon emerge from this in “Game of Thrones”?

The “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon” brought the dragons back to Westeros in 2022. In GoT, these mystical animals were thought to be long extinct until Daenerys Targaryen received three fossilized eggs and hatched them. In the second episode of the spin-off, her ancestor Daemon Targaryen steals a dragon egg that looks suspiciously similar to Daenerys’ eggs. Could it be yours?

House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen, 200 years before the time of Daenerys and her three dragons. In the series we see many of the lizard creatures and yet in the second episode the focus is particularly on a dragon egg.

Daemon Tragaryen stole the dragon egg that was intended for the deceased king’s son Baelon. The theft had led Rhaenyra Targaryen to go to her uncle in Dragonstone to retrieve it. But does this act perhaps have a much deeper meaning?

Where did Daenerys’ dragon eggs come from?

In Game of Thrones, Daenerys Targaryen received three fossilized dragon eggs from Illyrio Mopatis as a wedding gift. According to the Magister, the eggs came from the shadowlands beyond Asshai. He doesn’t reveal where the eggs actually came from.

Although Daemon’s stolen egg looked similar to Daenerys’ black egg, it is likely that it was not the same egg. Rhaenyra was able to get the egg back. This makes it likely that the Targaryens from “House of the Dragon” will hatch it themselves. Although it’s not exactly the same, there could still be a connection.

In the spin-off series we learn that Daemon’s stolen egg was probably an egg from the dragon Dreamfire. From the records in the book “Fire and Blood” we know that Dreamfire was the dragon of Rhaena Targaryen, the granddaughter of Aegon I, who conquered Westeros with his sisters.

About 60 to 70 years before the action of “House of the Dragon”, Rhaena’s confidant, Elissa Weitmann, stole three eggs from Dreamfire’s enclosure. These were sold to a sea lord from Bravos.

Since exactly three eggs were stolen, it is suspected that they were Daenerys’ dragon eggs. When Elissa sold the eggs, she warned the Sea Lord that the eggs would turn to stone over the years if they were not hatched.

Even if Daemon’s egg was not Daenerys’ egg, the dragons are apparently still related to each other.

We’ll find out what happens next in “House of the Dragon” in the next episodes. The fantasy saga is currently being shown for the first time on German free TV on ProSieben every Monday and can also be streamed for free on Joyn.
