Dear fans of Game Of Thrones and the universe of George RR Martin, you will have to be patient: season 2 of the spin-off series House of the Dragon won’t be released until next year, as HBO’s chief content officer has clarified.

See you in the summer of 2024?

In an interview with our colleagues from varietyCasey Bloys, president and chief content officer of HBO and HBO Max, gave some hints about the release of the next season of House of the Dragon. Asked about a potential broadcast in 2024, Bloys replied that imagining that season 2 of the spin-off of Game Of Thrones not being eligible for the Emmy Awards that year was “a good estimate” according to him.

A terse statement, but one that already frames the broadcast slot for the next season of House of the Dragon. The most prestigious ceremony in American television will take place in early September, and has already set the end of the program eligibility window for May 31, 2024. Which means that this second season should be released after this date, probably sometime in summer 2024. As a reminder, season 1 was broadcast from August 22, 2022.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is expected to arrive in the summer of 2024.

Casey Bloys also clarified his strategy regarding the future of the universe of Game Of Thronesand potential spin-off series to come: “My philosophy is that a good script is the number one priority. I don’t do it wanting to have one show a year, or two a year. I want to do it based on the scripts that we are passionate about”did he declare. “You have to develop a lot of things, try things. You never know what’s going to work. And that’s what we’re doing right now. I’m not opposed to a number of series. There’s probably a natural limit fans expect, but I’m open to anything as long as we feel really good about the scripts and the series outlook.”.

Released last August House of the Dragoncult spin-off series Game Of Throneshad signed the best start of the HBO channel with 9.9 million spectators for its first episode, and had established itself as one of the great winners of the last Golden Globes.

Historically broadcast on OCS, the majority of HBO series will be available from March on the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform, via the Warner Pass, a paid option. The details of this Pass (price, date of availability…) are still unknown, but Digital will of course keep you informed.
