Fans are eagerly awaiting the new Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Here we will learn more about the infamous Targaryen family and their reign over Westeros. With the launch of the spin-off series leading actor Matt Smith now give an insight into the shooting in an interview and unpacked a somewhat surprising opinion on the more spicy scenes of the series.
In “Game of Thrones” it was always very wild and not only in the warlike conflicts and the many intrigues. However, it is also often a little too wild and the series has been criticized for its excessive sex scenes and the frequent depiction of violence against women.
The showrunners of “House of the Dragon” were very aware of this criticism, which is why they announced that there will be fewer sex scenes in the prequel. However, what Miguel Sapochnik and co. mean by “less” may differ somewhat from Matt Smith’s understanding of the word.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the British actor opened up about time on set and how he still finds the use of sex scenes excessive. So excessive that Smith is said to have asked at one point if they really “needed another sex scene”. To which he only heard the answer: “Yes, we need it”.
While the Daemon Targaryen actor maintains his opinion that the intimate scenes are “a bit too many” for him, he still admits that the series should be based on the book template as much as possible. Therefore, he also understands that everyone responsible has to make a decision: Do you want to “represent the books as they were written or should you weaken them and thus adapt them to our own time?”
Since it was decided that the books should be presented in great detail, a larger portion of more or less sexy scenes are also included, because George RR Martin just likes to write sex scenes. At the end of August, we will finally be able to see for ourselves how Matt Smith finally mastered the scenes that he did not like.
