House of the Dragon: Mysaria and her spy network become important players in the Dance of the Dragons

After a 4 episode break, we saw Mysaria again in episode 8 of “House of the Dragon”. Although she apparently forgot about Daemon after his marriage to Laena and his travels in Essos, she was able to take care of herself well. In all these years she has not been idle and has achieved a certain level of prosperity.

A brothel in King’s Landing and spies subordinate to her are Mysaria’s means of choice to gain information and influence. Which side will the former dancer from Lys take in the impending conflict and dance of the dragons?

Ears and tongues in the furthest corners of the city

Previously, we saw Mysaria pass on the explosive information about Daemons and Rhaenyra’s flea hole affair to Otto Hohenturm. The Hand apparently paid Mysaria for this critical observation, which allowed her to slowly build up her own “company.” In addition to her brothel, she also employs spies who inform her about all the important events behind and outside the walls of the Red Keep.

Similar to Larys, in “House of the Dragon” she plays a bit of the role of Varys, the spider and master of the whisperers from “Game of Thrones”. She is now using the secret network she has built up for her own advantage.

About spies in the most trusted circles of Alicent’s faction, there is no dirty Green family secret that “Misere, the White Worm” doesn’t know about. Because their loyalty is only to themselves and, in some cases, to whoever pays the most.

Mysaria’s main informant

One of the most important people in Mysaria’s service may be Queen Alicent’s maid herself. Talya is always present and accompanies the queen everywhere. So she knows about almost all of the Greens’ scandals, rivalries and problems and can pass this information on directly to Mysaria.

Sometimes she even takes part in the queen’s machinations herself. For example, when Alicent gives moon tea to the servant who was raped by her son for an abortion. It is not entirely clear whether Mysaria lured Talya into her service with gold or threats. We also don’t know whether Tayla was “smuggled” into the castle or was already in the queen’s service there before Mysaria approached her.

At the end of episode 8 of “House of the Dragon” we see how Talya is apparently in the middle of reporting on King Viserys I Targaryen’s “reconciliation banquet” and the subsequent escalation. All of this gives Mysaria a huge advantage, as she can always pivot according to the right wind and pledge her services and skills to the more profitable party.

Where is Mysaria heading?

After King Viserys dies, Mysaria must turn to one of the two factions. The Greens under Alicent have gold and Mysaria has worked with them before. The blacks under Rhaenyra are likely to value her services more and Mysaria also has an erotic history with Prince Daemon.

This creates a very appropriate symmetry that each faction will have its own master of the whisperers. Lary’s power will officially be in the Small Council, while Mysaria, who not even all of Rhaenyra’s supporters know about, will prefer to operate unknown and unnamed from the shadows.

Mysaria’s knowledge of what is going on in the castle and her secret information about every actor in King’s Landing will be of enormous importance and benefit to the Blacks.

Especially while Rhaenyra is stuck on Dragonstone with Daemon and her children planning her next move, Mysaria will be essential to her. Her information about the Greens and their actions will soon give Rhaenyra a decisive advantage against Alicent.
