UNUSUAL on Sonic: Google makes a fool of itself with a tribute, even SEGA is shocked

Cult mascot of SEGA and emblematic character of the video game world, Sonic has fascinated fans of platform games for 33 years now, with titles of varying quality. The account X (ex-Twitter) of Google Play wanted to pay homage to him, but THE thread turned into a fiasco.

The idea was banal, going back to the major games of the franchise in chronological order, but you only need to see the first two messages to understand the problem: no illustrative image corresponds to the game mentioned. The community of X quickly added notes to correct the threadmaking the reading chaotic and highlighting the amateurism of this thread, but the problem is perhaps quite different.

Internet users quickly highlighted the fact that THE thread could have been generated by artificial intelligenceexplaining the confusion between Sonic the Hedgehog (first part of the franchise released in 1991) and Sonic the Hedgehog (a slightly different 2013 mobile game), the visual of which accompanies the post. Same with Sonic Boom (2014) and Sonic CDwhich contains a song called Sonic Boombut the rest is difficult to explain…

Users of X had fun trolling the thread by posting questions and reporting a problem, the account Google Play automatically responding with the same phrase, like many bots on Elon Musk’s social network… But this totally failed tribute has reached the ears of SEGAwho responded with a simple message: “what are you doing”. Mystery.

Obviously managed by robots, the account X of Google Play has not yet reacted. There still remains a possible explanation: a thread deliberately missed to get people talking about the account, a trick that would have worked well if that was the intention. Sonicfor its part, will return to the cinema at the end of the year, and perhaps in a new game in the vein of Sonic Frontiers in the future. Until then, you can find Sonic Superstars from €27.90 on Amazon, Cdiscount, Fnac And Gamesplanet.
