House of the Dragon season 2: bad news for fans

The first season of House of the Dragon quickly found its audience and fans are already impatiently waiting for season 2. But they will have to wait a while before they can discover it.

After the huge success of the first season of House of the Dragon, the teams of this first Game of Thrones spin-off are already working on preparing season 2. Showrunner Ryan Condal has revealed that production has already and already started, which could have advanced the release date of these new episodes.

But Casey Bloys, HBO’s program director, has dashed fans’ hopes of seeing House of the Dragon season 2 in 2023. While Game of Thrones seasons were released every year, its spin-off doesn’t seem to take the same path.

House of the Dragon season 2 in 2024

In an interview for Vulture, Casey Bloys said that Season 2 won’t be released next year: “Don’t expect a release in 2023, but rather sometime in 2024. We’re just starting to work out the plan, and like last time, there are so many unknown parameters. I’m not saying that in purpose of keeping a secret but we can’t afford to announce a date and then move it.”

In any case, the House of the Dragon teams are already working on the task. And showrunner Ryan Condal told Variety that filming for these new episodes will begin as early as 2023.

According to him, pre-production is already well underway and the writers have already started working on the scripts for the next episodes in order to maintain “a reasonable period of time from one season to another”.
