Daemon Targaryen plays a large and important role in “House of the Dragon”, after all he is the brother of the (recently deceased) King Viserys and the husband of his daughter Rhaenyra, the rightful heir to the throne. In every episode of the “Game of Thrones” spin-off, Daemon has been seen, sometimes with a sarcastic line on his lips, sometimes completely silent.
As Westeros’ bad boy, Daemon has many fans who regularly tweet about the lack of dialogue for their favorite Targaryen. But even without big words, maybe even because of that, Daemon became a particularly interesting character.
Of course, this is also due to Matt Smith, who gets everything out of his role and often says more with his facial expressions than you could with words. A mocking look from Daemon amused, a serious look increases the tension. When Daemon supported his brother, helped him to the throne and picked up his fallen crown and placed it on Viserys’ head in Episode 8, nothing needed to be said, yet we witnessed a memorable moment.
However, Daemon’s more silent side in recent episodes also shows that Daemon has changed. As the king’s brother and leader of the Kingsguard, Daemon could be cheeky, but as the husband of the almost-queen he is more cautious but no less ruthless, as the murder of Vaemond Velaryon proves.
In season 2 of “House of the Dragon” Daemon will play an important role again and will support Rhaenyra in the dance of the dragons. Before we move on to 2024, we can look forward to the remaining two episodes of Season 1 as the final characters are positioned for Game of Thrones.
