In England defender Harry Maguire has become a hated figure for fans of Manchester United and the national team. The most expensive defender in the world also felt the displeasure off the pitch. The 29-year-old receives a serious bomb threat.
English footballer Harry Maguire received a bomb threat a day after his club Manchester United lost to Liverpool. The police then searched his home. The British media report unanimously. Red Devils captain Maguire lives in Alderley Edge, outside Manchester, with his fiancé and two children. According to police, no evacuations took place, but as a precautionary measure, a police explosives detection dog was deployed to the property to search the gardens and surrounding area.
“In the last 24 hours, Harry has received a serious threat to his family home,” a spokesman for the 29-year-old said. Maguire reported this to the police, who are now dealing with the matter. “The safety of his family and those around him is Harry’s top priority. He will continue to prepare for this weekend’s game as usual and we will not comment further on that at this time.”
Maguire has been criticized for his poor performances in recent months. The defender switched from Leicester City to Manchester United in the summer of 2019 for around 87 million. It is the highest transfer fee paid for a defender to date.
Most recently, his own fans whistled at Maguire during an international match for the English national team. The Three Lions won 3-0 against Ivory Coast in London. England coach Gareth Southgate reacts with incomprehension to the behavior of the fans. “I thought the reception was a joke. A total joke,” Southgate said.
