A 17-year-old teenager is currently on trial in England for major pirates who have affected big names such as Uber, Revolut or Rockstar.

Hackers are humans like any other… far from the image of the cyberthief hiding under his hood in a dark room and like this cybersecurity expert who embezzled millions in cryptos. However, one figure persists: the gifted young adolescent. A story that continues today in London!

A member of Lapsus$

Some know how to do everything very quickly with a computer… and even fly! This is the case of Arion Kurtaj (18), who is accused of having belonged to the hacker group Lapsus$, of which he was, according to British justice, one of the “key players”. With another hacker, he would have attacked the telephone operators EE and BT Group between July and September 2021, and tried to extort 4 million euros from them.

A few months later, the two men, always ready for a new dirty trick, launched an assault on the chip giant Nvidia in February 2022. Again, they tried to blackmail their victim, demanding a ransom so as not to not publish the confidential data they had stolen.

Revolut

It was complicated for Revolut

An impressive solo career

Surely tired of having to share the fruits of his labor, the young man then decided to embark on computer hacking on his own. In September 2022, he attacked Revolut, and recovered the data of 5,000 Fintech customers, while at the same time causing some $3 million in damages to Uber. A few days later, it was the publisher of GTA Rockstar Games that he attacked, threatening to reveal the source code of the future Gran Theft Auto 6.

Like many before him, he was eventually arrested by the authorities. However, he was not considered fit to stand trial by psychiatrists, and therefore cannot be found guilty or not during his trial. He is being prosecuted on a total of 12 counts, three of which he has already admitted.
