Amazon is taking advantage of the immense progress in AI to make online item suggestions even more pleasant to browse. For sellers on the platform, the benefit is interesting since automated list creation by AI promises potentially higher sales.

This won’t be the first task Amazon has entrusted to AI. In fact, the company already uses it to summarize customer opinions on certain products, or to optimize certain logistical processes, such as the packaging of packages. If personalized recommendations using machine learning have already existed on the platform for a long time, the American giant wants to go even further. To boost sales and improve the customer experience, it will now task AI with creating perfectly optimized item lists.

A technology first at the service of sellers

Getting a potential customer through the checkout is an art, and has always been a challenge for as long as commerce has existed. Online commerce is no exception, and sellers who sell their products on Amazon know this perfectly well. To capture attention, you already need a title that is impactful. To retain the customer and inform them correctly, a skillfully written description is necessary. To simplify this entire process, Amazon will now rely on generative AI.

Sellers will simply provide a description of their products, and artificial intelligence will do the rest. The content, once generated, is modifiable and can be directly integrated into the sales catalog. Less effort required by sellers, for a more optimal result.

An improved shopping experience

Sellers will not be the only ones to benefit, since this innovation also aims to make the purchasing experience a more natural and pleasant act for customers. Having more complete information, they will be more able to go through the purchase box without getting lost in poorly translated or strangely worded descriptions. The vice president of Amazon Selection and Catalog Systems explains:

Thanks to our new generative AI models, we are able to infer, improve and enrich knowledge on an unprecedented scale. All while benefiting from clear progress in terms of quality, performance and efficiency. Our models can extract information about products from a multitude of sources and reason logically. For example, if a table is round, they will be able to deduce it if its description mentions a diameter. They will be able to discern the style of a shirt collar from a simple image ».

This new feature was introduced during the company’s annual conference for sellers, Amazon Accelerate 2023. If this innovation will benefit sellers and customers, this will also be the case for Amazon, which is certainly betting on an increase in the volume of sales. Large financial investments for the company, which it puts forward to justify its massive layoffs this year.
