Warner Bros. has just announced a new film taking place in Middle Earth. We find behind the camera and in the production of big names from the first film adaptation of Lord of the Rings.
The Lord of the Rings will return to the cinema
Warner Bros. has just officially announced the start of work on a new film dedicated to Lord of the Rings. Scheduled for 2026, this feature film entitled “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” will be directed by Andy Serkis who had already played the character in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. The director/actor should therefore also reprise his role.
The Hunt for Gollum is produced by Ken Kamins, with Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish via their production studio Imaginarium Productions. What’s more, Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, all three producers and screenwriters on the trilogy The Lord of the Rings, return here as producers. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, said all three will be “involved every step of the way.”
A new journey to Middle-earth
With The Hunt for Gollum, Warner Bros. therefore decides to bring together a large part of the team from the first trilogy to offer us this new journey to Middle-earth. The main stakeholders have already reacted. “It’s an honor and privilege to return to Middle-earth with our good friend and collaborator, Andy Serkis, who is not done with this Gollum plague! As long-time fans of Professor Tolkien’s vast mythology, we are proud to work with Mike De Luca, Pam Abdy and the entire team at Warner Bros. on an epic new adventure! declared Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. As Andy Serkis hinted, Weta Workshop, the famous special effects studio and long-time collaborator of Peter Jackson, should also be there.
This new foray into the universe of JRR Tolkien will not be the only one. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are also working on another feature film which has not yet been presented. The Lord of the Rings also returns to theaters at the end of the year with the animated film The Rohirrim War, a standalone story dedicated to the mighty horsemen of Rohan. For its part, Amazon is actively working on season 2 of the series The Rings of Power while the third season is also in preparation.
