Is the iPhone 15 Pro Max more durable than its competitors?
Last month, videographer Sam Kohl, of the YouTube channel AppleTrack, put the iPhone 15 Pro through some torture tests. The objective could not be clearer: to measure the resistance of Apple’s new high-end against the iPhone 14 Pro, marketed a year earlier. As you probably already know, the Apple brand has decided this year to opt for a titanium chassis, thus abandoning stainless steel. If the iPhone 15 Pro is undoubtedly lighter than its predecessor, the first tests nevertheless demonstrated that it was not any more solid than the model released last year.
Now, it is the turn of the company Allstate Protection Plans to share with us the results of its crash tests. On the other hand, this time it is not the iPhone 15 Pro which is the center of attention, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Galaxy S23 Ultra VS iPhone 15 Pro Max: which is more durable?
One thing promised, one due: here are the results of the tests carried out by Allstate Protection Plans concerning the resistance of the most expensive smartphones on the market. To start the festivities in the best possible way, the American insurer started by immersing the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Pixel Fold in water for 30 minutes. And as we could imagine, each of these devices manages to escape without trauma. However, things quickly got complicated when they were subjected to the traditional (but no less painful) drop tests. Rather judge for yourselves.
Whether it’s the Phone 15 Pro Max or the Galaxy S23 Ultra, both flagships saw their screen break after the first fall on concrete, at around 1.80 meters in height, thus becoming unusable. At this level, the folding phones from Google and Samsung have (unsurprisingly) proven to be much more resistant. The Pixel Fold and Z Fold5’s screens experienced only minor impacts, and that was after being dropped twice. We can, however, observe that they broke instantly as soon as they fell while being completely bent.
If the Apple smartphone remained functional after being dropped on the rear surface, note that two of its cameras no longer worked due to damage caused to the glass. For its part, the Galaxy S23 Ultra unfortunately cannot say the same. And yes, Samsung’s latest baby turned out to be completely unusable after falling in such conditions. Now let’s hope that the new edges of the Galaxy S24 will allow it to enjoy greater durability…
