How family and past tragedies determine the present

In suburban Philadelphia, detective Mare Sheehan (Kate Winslet) investigates the murder of a teenage mother while trying to save her own life from falling apart. The community-driven drama “Mare of Easttown” explores the dark side of a close community and shows very authentically how family and past tragedies can determine our present.

The new miniseries takes the viewer on a journey into the life of Mare Sheehan. In addition to being the Easttown small-town detective, she’s also a local hero, having starred in a high school championship basketball game 25 years ago. She has now been trying to solve a murder case for over a year, causing many in the community to question her abilities. The facade that she has been able to maintain over the years is beginning to crumble. Mare also struggles with her own problems and is repeatedly confronted with her demons. A divorce, a son lost to suicide, and a heroin addicted daughter-in-law fighting for custody of Mare’s grandson, her life seems to fall to pieces.

“Mare of Easttown” is not only about the crime and the secret of who did it, but also about the community of the small town. Mare’s deep sense of duty to the people of Easttown makes their quest for justice even more personal. The interwoven story of the small town detective ties life and crimes together, and the revelation of who committed this murder is utterly harrowing.

The miniseries will be available on demand from May 21, 2021 either in German or in the original on Sky Show.
