With the sudden onset of the pandemic, almost three years ago, the various videoconferencing software have been able to adapt and have since integrated many features into their services. For its part, Google Meet is no exception to the rule and seems to want to continue its momentum.

Although we recently learned that Meet would soon be able to send you transcripts of your meetings, the Mountain View firm does not intend to stop there. Thus, it intends to develop its work tools to face the competition.

Google Workspace: many updates to come

Over the past few years, teleworking has become more central than ever in a large number of companies. If this still raises questions about productivity, and Microsoft has also taken an open position on this subject, it is clear that today we have a large number of tools to optimize efficiency. employees from home. Among them are video conferencing services which have steadily improved throughout the pandemic and which continue to be enriched in features.

To keep up with Zoom, Slack and Microsoft Teams, Google has announced that multiple updates will be rolled out over the next few weeks to its Workspace suite. Remember also that Hangouts will permanently close its doors from next month. Thus, the last users will have to migrate to Google Chat and save their conversations in case of any glitch.

Google Meet and Chat: all the expected new features

Many changes are underway on the side of Google’s Workspace suite. While Chat will welcome the ability to filter messages from this October, customers will also be able to create personalized emojis to make the experience even more interactive. However, this functionality will arrive a little later in the year.

From the start of 2023, it will no longer be necessary to systematically modify the audio settings (nor to check that each employee’s microphone is muted) when managers speak. Indeed, Google will introduce a space called “Broadcast only” which will take care of adapting the sound and the parameters to the circumstances. In addition, still for the beginning of next year, Chat and Meet will both receive their own APIs so that they can be launched directly from third-party applications, starting with Asana and LumApps.

Finally, Google Chat now allows Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, and Education Plus accounts to take advantage of additional data loss prevention features. This option is already available on Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides, and will allow Google Chat to prevent any information leaks before sending a message.

Google Meet

  • Integration with the Google ecosystem
  • Simple to handle
  • No Google account required for attendees

Google Meet is a handy option for creating and participating in video meetings if you use the Google ecosystem on a daily basis. But, above all thought of as an extra service to complement other tools, it is an incomplete solution that will have a hard time convincing the most demanding users.
