How much money do CAF aid recipients live on?

75% of RSA beneficiaries live below the poverty line. If the RSA did not exist, this percentage would rise to 91% of the households concerned. The DREES provides very detailed statistics on the standard of living and resources of beneficiary households.

610 euros. If the RSA did not exist, the nearly 2 million beneficiaries would live on 610 euros per month, according to a study by the DREES (1) publishes Friday, July 7. Clarification of importance: this average is understood at the level of the household, of the family, and not at the individual level.

These 610 euros, earned income (salary, self-employment, etc.) are mostly received by the recipient of the RSA within the household, but also often via a relative (father or mother of the recipient for example) or the joint. In other words, income before transfers [avant aides sociales et autres dispositifs, NDLR] of a person receiving the RSA are on average 240 euros per month, supplemented on average by 370 euros of income before transfers from other members of the household, details the Drees.

These resources for activity are supplemented by family or housing allowances, then by social minima, starting with the RSA. These various schemes allow beneficiary households to live, on average, on 1,470 euros per month. For the household, and not per person: the DREES study does not specify, on average, the number of beneficiaries in the households concerned.

Who can receive the RSA?

Towards by the CAF or the MSA, the active solidarity income (RSA) is intended for anyone aged 25 or over or if you are between 18 and 25 years old assuming the responsibility of a child. As the DREES points out, the RSA is a differential allowance. That is to say? The amount is not a fixed flat rate. The amount paid to each household varies according to the household’s other resources, so that they reach the threshold of a lump sum, the scale of which varies according to family composition. Here are the maximum RSA amounts in 2023.
