Who is authorized to sell calendars?
A trade is officially authorized by the institution it represents to sell door-to-door calendars: these are firefighterssince 1946. To do this, they have the obligation to come to your door in work clothes and to be able to introduce you, if necessary, to their business card.
In the case of factors, no official authorization, but a tolerance. La Poste is thus not directly involved in the sale of calendars: it is done on the initiative and for the sole benefit of the postman, who orders his almanacs himself and must distribute them out of working hours. However, he must present himself in work clothes and with his professional card. Ideally, especially in collective housing, he also announces his visit, by putting up a poster in the common areas.
A 3rd profession traditionally distributed calendars: scavengers. It is increasingly rare: many municipalities – that of Paris in particular – in fact prohibit their agents from selling almanacs door-to-door.
