You may have noticed, but your PS5’s DualSense controller has recently evolved.
The recent 7.0 update to Sony’s console adds a “new” option as basic as it is essential (and yet missing) to its controller.
New for the PS5 DualSense controller
A few days ago, your PS5 console may have downloaded and installed the very latest 7.0 update rolled out by Sony. This new version of the machine’s internal software notably allows the PS5 to benefit from new VRR support for 1440p screens, but also from integration of the Discord platform.
Added to this are various more or less notable optimizations in terms of interface and accessibility, as well as social features. However, in all discretion, this update also allows the PS5, and in particular its DualSense controller, to now be on par with the Xbox and Nintendo Switch controllers.
DualSense now compatible with OTA updates
Indeed, it’s no longer a secret for anyone, for a few years now, in addition to updates for our consoles, firmware also concerns our gamepads. Also, you have probably already had to update your gamepads Nintendo Switch, or your Xbox or PS5 controller. However, for the latter, it was imperative that it be connected to the PS5 by a USB cable.
Indeed, on the side of the Xbox and Nintendo Switch controllers, the updates of the controllers are always carried out either in OTA, or in a wireless way. A point that Sony obviously wanted to correct, a little less than two and a half years after the launch of its PS5.
Thus, from now on, it is (finally!) possible to update the system software of the DualSense controller thanks to a wireless connection. The controller will turn off during the procedure, which takes less than a minute, and it will then be enough to turn it back on to find a controller in top shape and up to date. Exit therefore this procrastination which characterized us all as for the update of the DualSense, and now place in an optimized comfort, without the slightest cable and perfectly identical to that offered by the competition. It was time !
