You just received a Samsung Galaxy for Christmas and you’re completely lost with new apps opening when you don’t expect them. This is normal: as on all smartphones, One UI decides in advance which applications are activated by default for certain tasks. Fortunately, it is very easy to modify these. We’ll explain how.

It must be said that unlike Apple’s ecosystem, Android smartphones have a multitude of applications to perform even the most basic tasks. Also, you may be opening the wrong application, at least not the one you originally want, to read a file or calculate a route.
How to Change Default Apps on a Galaxy Smartphone
This can be particularly destabilizing on Galaxy smartphones, since it happens that Samsung’s native applications do not open for certain tasks. This is due to the fact that Google paid the Korean manufacturer handsomely to establish itself on One UI, its overlay. In most cases this should not be a problem. But you may still want to choose another specific application, without having to navigate the entire list on your smartphone.

Good news: it’s extremely easy to change the default application for a specific task. Even more so if you have just received your smartphone and it is not yet fully configured. Indeed, if this is your case, here is the procedure to follow to choose the application of your choice.
- Open a new type of file or link from another application
- A pop-up appears with a selection of applications capable of performing the requested task
- Choose the app of your choice
- Press on Always
Once done, your Galaxy smartphone will systematically open the selected application when a file or similar link is executed.
However, the default application may already be configured. In which case, you will have to go to the One UI Settings to modify it. Here’s how :
- Open them Settings
- Go to the section Applications
- Press on Choice of default applications
- Select the task you want to perform (read an SMS, open links, make a call, etc.)
- Check the application of your choice for this task
And There you go ! The application of your choice will run every time you attempt to perform the designated task. Of course, you will just have to repeat this information when you want to change applications, for example when you have downloaded another one that better meets your expectations. Note that it also happens that the applications themselves ask if you want to configure them by default when first opened (and sometimes even after refusing…)
