How To Find The Putrid Rat In V Rising | Guide boss

The Putrid Rat is a boss in V Rising that you won’t find through the Blood Altar. Find out how to find and fight it.

Like all bosses in V Rising, the Putrid Rat gives players who defeat it the opportunity to gain a new power. If you manage to find and defeat this rodent, you can get your hands on the vampiric power Rat Form: a great tool for sneaking around without being spotted.

However, the Putrid Rat has a special feature: you cannot track it via the Blood Altar. Truth be told, you just can’t find it in the wild.

Find out how to find and fight the Putrid Rat in V Rising.

Summary

How to find the Putrid Rat

The Putrid Rat is a unique boss that has the particularity of having to be summoned. So there’s no need to fret over your blood altar or scour the sewers for it: you’re going to need to use crafting magic to spawn this boss.

How to Summon Putrid Rat

In order to summon the Putrid Rat, you will need to build a Vermin Nest. You will find the latter in the construction tab (B), then in production and refining. It is a resource-intensive tool that is very easy to access:

The Vermin Nest summons all sorts of critters to your castle

If you have already unlocked some housing elements for your castle, prefer to place the vermin nest in a closed room and on alchemical ground in order to benefit from a 25% bonus to the manufacturing rate and -25% to consumption of resources.

Once your nest is built, you will have access to the recipe for summoning the Putrid Rat:

  • 1 Dusk Snapper
  • 3 fish bones
  • 6 Grave Dust

Once the ingredients have been gathered and placed in your vermin nest, the boss will be summoned after 30 seconds.

How to Fight the Putrid Rat

Despite its level 30, the Putrid Rat is arguably one of the easiest bosses to defeat in its level bracket. However, if possible, make sure you have enough space near your vermin nest to enjoy a little freedom of movement.

Most of the time, the Putrid Rat will just land you basic attacks that are slow and predictable enough to avoid or counter. When you have damaged it enough, it will bury itself and make a huge swarm of small rats appear.

In order to easily overcome this tide of enemies, it is better to opt for at least one spell inflicting area damage. Hematic Rite, Corpse Blast, or Backlash will do just fine. You can also use a Sword whose Whirlwind attack will be particularly effective.

Once the rat swarm is defeated, the Putrid Rat will come out of hiding and you just have to finish the job.
