What is a ring size?

First of all, if you want to know your ring size, you better know what it is exactly. This is the value of the circumference of the inside of your ring, expressed in millimeters.

For example, if your finger size is 54 (or 5.4 cm), your ring size will be 54. Nothing could be simpler!

This is also the value of your finger size. If you measure your finger circumference with a paper tape, the distance obtained in millimeters indicates your height.

This measurement system applies in several European countries. Besides France, you can treat yourself to a ring without batting an eyelid in Russia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway or Finland.

Please note that this type of measurement does not work for US sizes, but you can get a conversion table below. This allows you to know the correspondence between French and American sizes.

How do you know your finger size from a ring?

If you already have a ring around, you have several ways to get the size.

With an A4 sheet and a pen, wrap the sheet on the pen. Then slide the paper roll into your ring. From there, make a mark with a pen between part of the roller and its end. Then unroll the sheet and measure the distance between the two marks with a ruler. Normally, you get a length of between 4 and 7 cm. If you have a value between 53 and 54mm, for example, consider 54mm.

With this method, you therefore obtain the circumference of your finger, which corresponds to the size of the ring used in jewelry.

How to know your ring size by measuring the circumference of the finger?

What is handy when you want to know your ring size without having one available, is that you always have your fingers left! This method turns out to be the simplest and the most economical. On the other hand, it is not the most discreet if you are planning an engagement.

So you need a string, preferably fine enough, a felt-tip pen or a pen and a ruler. Start by folding your string in half. This double thickness will limit the margin of error. Then wrap the string around the third phalanx of your finger. The twine should not be too tight or too loose. Mark with a pen where the string meets. Lay the string out on a ruler and measure the distance in millimeters from the pencil mark to the edge of the string.

The measurement obtained therefore corresponds to the circumference of your finger, but also to the size of the ring. As with the previous method, if your finger size is between two sizes, it is advisable to take the larger size.
