The PS Remote Play app, available on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows PCs, turns any device into a PlayStation console. The only requirement is to have a good Internet connection.

Since 2019, Sony has made it possible to transform any smartphone (iOS or Android), tablet or computer (Windows or macOS) into a PlayStation screen, thanks to the Internet. The concept is promising, since it allows you to play on vacation without having to subscribe to a cloud gaming service, such as Shadow or the Xbox Game Pass.
PS Remote Play: how to play PlayStation on your smartphone?
To be able to play PlayStation on your smartphone, several conditions are required:
- Have a PS4 or PS5 connected to the Internet and in rest mode (do not turn it off).
- Have a good internet connection at home (Sony recommends at least 15 Mb/s, although 5 Mb/s may be sufficient).
- Have activated the option Remote Play in the settings of his PlayStation console.
- Download PS Remote Play app on their iPhone (App Store), Android smartphone (Play Store) or tablet.
- Connect a Dualshock or Dualsense controller to your smartphone (you can also use touch controls, but good luck).
- Log in to your PlayStation account from the mobile app.
- Launch the connection and wait approximately 1 minute.
If all goes well, your PlayStation console screen will appear on your phone or tablet screen (and your TV screen will remain off). Touching your device allows you to display a virtual controller in the event of a battery failure of its physical controller, to turn off the PS4/PS5 remotely for example.
Note that for remote play to work well, you must have a stable network. It can be Wi-Fi or 4G/5G, but should not vary too much (in public transport for example). In this case, the connection may be interrupted. At home, it is also possible to play on the local network, to continue a game in your room when the TV in the living room is used for example.
How to Enable Remote Play PS4/PS5 Games on PC and Mac?
It is also possible to launch PS Remote Play on Windows or macOS, but then you will lose the virtual controller. You still have to connect a PlayStation controller (wired or Bluetooth), even if you can use your keyboard to navigate the menus (the arrows to go right or left, Enter to validate). The procedure is the same, but the PS Remote Play application must be downloaded from the Sony site.
Once the software is installed, just log in to start remote playback. Settings allow you to vary the display quality on PS4, but the PS5 has a mandatory adaptive mode (the quality varies automatically).
How do you turn off your PS4 or PS5 afterwards?
To turn off your console (or rather put it on standby, to play again later), you have to follow the classic approach. You can also use the commands of the application to turn off the console, thanks to the virtual buttons. Finally, depending on your energy settings, the console may turn itself off after a while.
What is the PlayStation game worth without TV?
Long decried because of its poor functioning, the PS Remote Play has improved enormously since the launch of the PlayStation 5. At Numerama, we regularly play demanding titles for several hours, such as God of War Ragnarok, on Mac. Everything now works without the slightest slowdown, thanks to our good connections (where there is the PS5 and where we play).
Unfortunately, without being able to really explain why, it still happens to encounter major latency problems, which make it impossible for certain games to run smoothly (a Fifa or one Fall Guys, for example, are not suitable for interruptions of several seconds). Anyway, the PS Remote Play is a service worth knowing, since it works well without using large servers on the other side of the continent.
