Google has launched Gemini Pro, its latest LLM, on Google Bard, its own chatbot. Problem: impossible to test it in France. Really ? Here’s how you can test this AI from your Android smartphone.
Google recently presented Gemini, its latest LLM which intends to surpass GPT and others. For the moment, it is in the testing phase in its Pro version on Google Bard, the company’s chatbot, its ChatGPT. However, it is not available in France, but only in the United States. Fortunately, there is a method to be able to test it anyway.
How to access Google Bard with Gemini Pro
The method is simply to use a VPN to geolocate in the United States. There are plenty of VPNs that offer it: if you want a free solution just to try the new Google Bard, ProtonVPN will do the trick.
Once it’s done:
- Go to the “ Google » settings of your smartphone;
- Click on ” Manage your Google account » ;
- Go to the “ Personal informations ”, then in the “ General web preferences » and click on “ Language » ;
- Add the English language, but in its American version.
You can access this setting directly from myaccount.google.com/language. Then, go to bard.google.com and sign in with your Google account if you haven’t already done so. Then, a blue banner should appear, indicating that Bard has been updated in English to Gemini Pro. Moreover, we can read that Gemini Ultra, the most advanced version of the language model, will be available early next year.
A Gemini who doesn’t (yet) speak French
As Gemini Pro is still in development, it cannot write responses in English. When Google Bard responds in French, it does not use this model, but PaLM 2, another LLM. In the test, we notice some differences between Gemini Pro and basic Google Bard. He tends to always add images and cites his sources each time, for example when asked to summarize the news.
If asked to create a poem about pickles, Gemini adds photos of pickles, which the Bard version available in France does not do. When asked what Bard knows about FrandroidGemini Pro’s answer is a little longer.
In addition, certain passages are highlighted: by clicking on them, Bard is able to give us the address from which he obtained the given information. By clicking on certain other highlighted passages (in orange), however, it indicates that it cannot find relevant content.
