Creating a webapp on macOS from a website has several significant advantages compared to “classic” navigation from Safari. So today we’re explaining to you how to take advantage of this function natively offered by Apple in just a few clicks.
More privacy, simplified navigation and an experience that is as practical as it is customizable. These are the main advantages of webapps (or web applications) on macOS compared to the more traditional consultation of a web page via Safari.
And for good reason, webapps operate independently. With them, no sharing of browsing history, cookies, or data: what you do in a webapp remains compartmentalized on this webapp. An interesting asset, to which is added a largely simplified interface (compared to Safari, we only find the “previous”, “next” and “share” buttons on a webapp), but also customization possibilities for the icon and the name of said webapp on macOS, or even the display — where applicable — of the number of unread notifications directly on the icon.

How to transform a site into a webapp on macOS?
Creating a webapp is done using Safari. So start by launching Apple’s browser on your Mac, then follow these steps:
- Go to the website you want to turn into a webapp. In our case, it will of course be Frandroid.com.
- Click on the button “Share» in the upper right corner of the window
- Then click on the option “Add to Dock»
- (Alternatively, note that it is also possible to access this option under File > Add to Dock)
- Keep or modify the name of the future webapp, then click on “Add» when you are ready.
The chosen website is now integrated into the macOS Dock, in the form of a webapp. The latter is also present in the “Applications” folder of your Mac. It is also possible to launch it easily using the Launchpad or the Spotlight search tool.
As mentioned at the start of the article, there are some customization options for webapps. For example, if you want to modify the name of the one you have just created, change its icon, or even modify its confidentiality settings, it is possible. To do this, here is the procedure to follow:
- Launch the webapp you want to modify.
- Click on the name of the webapp in the menu bar (near the apple, top left of the screen).
- Click on “Settings“.
- The settings window is displayed, with the different options mentioned above.
If you subsequently want to delete the created webapp, nothing could be simpler. Just do a simple “drag/drop» on the icon of the webapp in question from the Dock to the desktop.
