How to use Google Docs on Android to create Word files?


Google Docs is a very useful app on your Android device. It lets you create and collaborate on documents on the go.

If you use the app regularly, there may be times when you need to create files that are not in the default Google Doc format. Although millions of users work with Google Docs, there are just as many who use Microsoft Word. And even though Google Docs does a good job of converting between formats, there may be times when you need to work on a .docx format natively.

In this case, you must ensure that your Android application is configured to allow the creation of Word documents. Thus, you have the option of creating either Google Docs files or Word files.

Here’s how to enable this feature.

How to Use Google Docs on Android to Create MS Word Files

Prerequisites

The only thing you will need for this operation is the Google Docs app on your Android device.

1. Enable the creation of Word files in the settings

Press the menu button (three horizontal lines located in the upper left corner) then, in the sidebar that appears, tap Settings.

On the next page, toggle the slider Create Word files on We.

2. Create a Word document

On the main Google Docs page, tap the + sign in the lower right corner of the window. You should see an additional entry titled New Word file. Tap this entry to open the Google Docs editor. Here you are editing a file in .docx format!

How to Export a Word Document from Android

If you have a Google Docs file, you can also export it as a Word document.

    1. Open the file in Google Docs.

    1. Tap the menu button (three dots at the top right of the screen).

    1. Press on Share and export.

    1. Press on Save as.

    1. In the pop-up window, tap Word (.docx).

    1. Press OK.

The file automatically opens in DOCX format in Google Docs, where you can start editing it.
