So far, Huawei is best known for smartphones. However, the ongoing US sanctions are forcing the manufacturer to open up new business areas. One of them: backpacks for children. A function of the smart Huawei backpack addresses the security needs of parents.

Although Huawei is combative and is still bringing new smartphones onto the market, the Chinese are now a long way from the success of the past. Around three years of crippling US sanctions have taken their toll, shrinking smartphone market share. So it’s not surprising that Huawei is looking for other business areas where the effects of the US ban hammer don’t weigh too heavily. After successes with smartwatches and in pig farming, this also includes smart backpacks for children.

The unique selling point of the Huawei backpack is its location capability (Source: Gizmochina). Concerned parents can use the GPS and BeiDou satellite navigation systems to have their backpack – and thus their child – tracked. The backpack can be connected and controlled via HarmonyOS, Huawei’s own operating system, as well as via an app connection. Guardians can also set three zones there: Home, School, Other. If the child leaves the zones, the parents will be informed via text message. Parents can also view the child’s location on their cell phone at any time.

Dust and water protection according to IP67

Aside from the monitoring functions, the Huawei backpack offers other practical features. So is A 1.57-inch diagonal display is attached to the back, which can display timetables or different clocks. The dust and water protection according to IP67 ensures that the screen remains functional even if the child puts the backpack down in the dirt or mud.

for the equivalent of around 97 euros, the Huawei backpack should go to the start – but only for the first testers. The price at the market launch should be higher, it is said. It is not yet known when this will take place.
