Huawei remains hampered by technology restrictions imposed by the United States, which has significantly reduced its market share in telecommunications equipment and connected devices outside its national territory in recent years.
Despite lacking access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) and US 5G chips, Huawei continues to produce well-designed smartphones with excellent camera systems, like the Mate 50 Pro, and innovative wearables like the very amazing Watch Buds, both presented by Huawei at MWC.
There were no announcements for the upcoming P60 and Mate X3 smartphones, but the Chinese company did highlight the Huawei Watch GT Cyber, which was launched in China in November 2022 at a price of ¥1,288 (about 175 €).
The watch face automatically adjusts to its new location
The Watch GT Cyber, based on HarmonyOS, has a unique design, since the “movement” of the watch, with its 1.32-inch AMOLED screen of 466 by 466 pixels, is detachable from the bracelet. It comes in three editions – Urban and Sport with 47.4mm cases and 140-210mm high-performance rubber straps, and Elegant with a 45.6mm case and 130-200mm strap. The Urban Edition is available with a Golden Black case, the Sport Edition in Midnight Black or Space Grey, and the Elegant Edition in Moonlight White or Sea Blue.
When you insert the movement into a new case, the watch face automatically adjusts to its new location. You can even replace the rotating crown of the watch to make it fit better. As well as a choice of watch faces, you can take a snapshot of your garment and create one from it.
The watch equipped with GPS and Bluetooth technology offers military-grade durability (16 tests including high and low temperatures, shocks, liquids, solar radiation, rain, salt spray, dust, damp heat, immersion, vibrations and acid atmosphere), as well as 5ATM water resistance, which should allow it to cope with many lifestyles.
Several sports and training modes are available, as well as TruSleep 3.0 monitoring and TruSeen 5.0+ vital signs monitoring, which provides uninterrupted 24/7 heart rate monitoring.
The Watch GT Cyber supports reverse wireless charging (from a correspondingly equipped smartphone) and Huawei claims it can last seven days of normal use or four days of heavy use (30 minutes of calls Bluetooth per week, heart rate and sleep monitoring enabled, 180 minutes of training with GPS per week, message notifications enabled and screen on for 30 minutes per day).
Unfortunately, the Watch GT Cyber is available in China, Southeast Asia and parts of South America, but there are no plans to introduce it in Europe and the United States at this time.
