HubrisVR TEST: what is the Meta Quest 2 and Pro version worth?

Released at the end of 2022 on our PC headsets VR, Hubriswhose complete test can be found here, we really liked it visually with high-flying graphics and dynamic movementsalternating phases of climbing, diving and driving machinery and gunfight. The game had immersed us in the skin of an agent-in-training of the “Order Of Objectivity” (OOO)sent in disaster in the heart of a system of twin planets in terraforming, accompanied by luciathe pilot of the ship, in search of the mysterious agent Cyanha.

It runs like clockwork on the Meta Quest thanks to the SpaceWarp App and the hard work of the developers.

Very polished visually, we could wonder in what state the Meta Quest 2 and Pro version was going to land, especially since all the content has been ported. Let’s go straight to the point, this grind has undergone a downgrade noticeable visual, not on the decorative elements, but rather in terms of image resolution. This is often what happens when a title PCVR is available as a standalone. Hubris is however very beautiful and coherent as a whole, but suffers from a blurring phenomenon which varies according to the more or less demanding scenes or the resolution tends to drop. However, the average gamer will not stop at this kind of detail and will be focused on the action. The sets remain loaded with information so the pill goes well in this sense and we forget de facto these inconveniences.

To be able to fit the entire game on the Meta Quest without any compromise other than image quality, and to hold a frame rate stable, the developers at Cyborn exploited theSpace Warp app(AppSW : technology allowing to produce only one image out of two while extrapolating the missing images). Nevertheless, AppSW requires, visual artifacts are noticeable when elements move. Be that as it may, during our gaming sessions, we only very rarely felt any frame drops. The experience is therefore fluid and it’s a real pleasure, the game runs like clockwork.

Moreover, this version has benefited from corrections which were not then present when it was released on PCVR. The developers, who have been at the bedside of the latter since the beginning, will adopt the same posture for the Meta Quest. The studio told us that the game could, in the near future, benefit from the famous DRS (Dynamic Resolution Scaling) to make it visually prettier.

So here we are in front of who will keep you in suspense four hours around and which does honor to the Meta Quest. The helmet still has it underfoot, even if concessions in terms of resolution have been made. Hubris in its autonomous version is really very pleasant to hold and navigate. We find all content PCVR as well as his gameplay and it is a real pleasure. The game has many settings for interactions and movements, French subtitles are included and the game remains fluid in all circumstances. We are in front of a very successful Meta Quest experience which will undoubtedly find its place on the Meta store. Yes, qualitative experiences in 2023 do exist. Note that the game is cross buythat is to say that the purchase on the Oculus Rift store gives access to the Quest version and vice versa.
