2023 wasn’t a good year for some celebrity marriages – including Hugh Jackman and his wife. These separations were also surprising.
In Hollywood, eternal love can only be found in the films. The year 2023 has already surprised us with some breakups of celebrity couples that one would have thought might last forever. These are the most surprising celebrity breakups of the year so far:
Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee Furness
For almost three decades they were considered one of Hollywood’s eternal dream couples. A few days ago, however, Hugh Jackman (54) and Deborra-Lee Furness (67) announced after 27 years of marriage that they were going their separate ways from now on. Her statement says cryptically: “Our journey is now changing and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.”
Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau
They had known each other since childhood and were considered a great model couple in politics: Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (51) and his long-time wife Sophie (48) announced the end of their marriage at the beginning of August 2023 after 18 years together. In a statement, the couple said they have made the decision to separate after “many meaningful and difficult conversations.” The politician couple has three children together, aged 15, 14 and nine.
Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello
This Hollywood dream couple caught it in the seventh year: Surprisingly for many fans, “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara (51) and “Magic Mike” star Joe Manganiello (46) announced in mid-July 2023 that they were ending their romantic relationship. A joint statement said: “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people who love and care for each other deeply, we politely ask for respect for our privacy as we navigate this new phase of our lives .”
Officially, the two stars are divorcing due to “irreconcilable differences”, but there is speculation in the media that Manganiello’s unfulfilled desire for a child could be the real reason behind the end of the marriage.
Kevin Costner and Christine Baumgartner
Kevin Costner (68) and Joe Manganiello not only have in common that their marriages failed in 2023. The two actors also both hired the same divorce lawyer. Both Costner and Manganiello are represented by star lawyer Laura Wasser (55). While her client Manganiello’s divorce seems to be going pretty smoothly thanks to the prenuptial agreement, there is a little more to do in Kevin Costner’s divorce…
In May 2023, Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner (49) announced that they were divorcing after 18 years. Since then, headlines have been circulating in the media about a war of the roses between the still-married couple, which continues through the ongoing divorce process. The reason – as so often: irreconcilable differences.
Christine Baumgartner in particular suffered defeats in court recently. According to the court’s order, not only did she have to move out of the house they shared, but according to the court, she also had to cover part of the costs that Costner incurred for the engagement of his divorce lawyer. The Hollywood actor, on the other hand, will pay around $63,000 per month in child support for their three children in the future. Baumgartner had originally asked for between $160,000 and $175,000.
Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth
Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon’s (47) second marriage lasted almost twelve years. In March 2023, she and her spouse Jim Toth, 53, announced that they were going their separate ways after more than a decade together. The separation wasn’t as surprising as with some other celebrity couples: Even before the separation statement, there had been rumors that there was supposed to be a crisis between the two. Witherspoon and Toth have a son together, Tennessee (10). The actress has children Ava (24) and Deacon (19) from her previous marriage to Ryan Phillippe.
