A good year after the death of Diego Maradona, his brother Hugo has surprisingly also died. The 52-year-old Argentine died on Tuesday in his adopted country of Naples, as the football club of the Italian city announced. According to media reports, he suffered a heart attack in his home in Monte di Procida, and emergency services called for could only determine that he was dead.

Hugo was born in Argentina in 1969 like his brother Diego. As a professional he played in several international football leagues, but with far less success than Diego. After his career ended, he settled near Naples.

In the coastal city, his older brother Diego was a legend whose portrait adorned entire house facades. The SSC Napoli celebrated its greatest successes with him at the end of the 1980s. After his death on November 25, 2020, the city of Naples renamed its football stadium the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

The SSC Napoli expressed its condolences to the Maradona family in a message.
