  • A mysterious gadget has been haunting the internet for months. It is a type of brooch that attaches magnetically to clothing.
  • The device has no display but projects content onto the palm of your hand using a green laser.
  • Numerous AI functions are intended to support you in everyday life.
  • Humane Ai Pin is available now and requires a monthly subscription.

When the first smartwatches became socially acceptable, some people assumed that this was the end of smartphones. Instead, many people carry their computer clock in their pocket in addition to their cell phone. The startup Humane takes a different approach.

Ai Pin does not rely on a smartphone and works autonomously. You don’t bury it in your pocket but wear it openly like a brooch. The look of the case is somewhat reminiscent of an Apple Watch without a bracelet. The glass front houses a touchscreen. It is powered by a Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. A mobile radio module is also installed.

The gadget is attached using a magnetic clip, which also contains the battery. You should be able to easily replace it when it is empty. However, the manufacturer does not reveal how long the battery life is.

Your palm becomes a canvas

The highlight of the whole thing: A small laser beamer projects content onto the palm of your hand. You can interact with what is shown using finger and hand movements, similar to the double-click feature on the Apple Watch Series 9 or the Apple Vision Pro.

The "brooch" reminds a little of the Apple Watch.

If you touch the surface of the “brooch”, a microphone is activated. A kind of AI concierge will then answer your questions. The device has built-in speakers that are intended to envelop you in your own “cloud of sound”. It is unclear to what extent outsiders are aware of this. Even simultaneous translations should be possible in this way.

If desired, a 13-megapixel camera takes videos and photos that can be viewed on a computer at a later date. Notes, voice memos and more can also be managed and viewed here. Once the camera is activated, LED lights indicate this. Secret filming should apparently be prevented.

Price and availability

Ai Pin is available for pre-order in the US starting November 16th and is priced at $700. There are also monthly fees of $24 to use the AI features (there are unlimited prompts) and the Humane Network, which is based on the T-Mobile network. Details about the market launch in Germany have not yet been leaked.
