Remember. Last April, during the TED conferences, we discovered a connected product that was similar to a “portable projector based“, with artificial intelligence at the heart of the communication process. At the origin of this innovation, the start-up Humane, which then demonstrated a sort of pin to be attached to clothing, equipped with a personal assistant and a camera.Fully autonomous, the device was capable of quickly translating words into another language.

The AI Pin, by its nickname, must be officially launched Thursday, November 9 by Humane, but The Verge has obtained exclusive information which allows it to reveal the main characteristics of this extraordinary product ahead of time. It is therefore a smartphone without screen which will be sold at $699, to which must be added $24 per month for a subscription to T-Mobile in the United States and to access ChatGPT, Open AI’s AI and Microsoft.

A device that still has everything to prove

About the size of a business card, the AI Pin is a device that fits in your hand. It attaches to clothing and is nothing more or less than a personalized assistant that can be controlled by voice and touch. Without a screen, it does however have a projector function which allows access to an interface broadcast on the palm of the hand. A touchpad on the device also allows you to interact with it. The clip contains the battery, which can be changed during the day. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and can connect to headphones via Bluetooth. We don’t know more at the moment.

Humane did not imagine its device as a wearable depending on a smartphone. Designed to be completely autonomous, it has its own OS, Cosmos, which does not offer applications. “Humane appears to be imagining a more seamless system that can call upon various AIs and other tools as needed. This is a bit like ChatGPT’s plugin system, where you can add new features or data to your chatbot — which is consistent with reports that the Pin is powered by GPT-4“, explain The Verge. A Humane.center allows you to configure the device (we do not yet know how, via a website or a smartphone). And it is through this portal that you will be able to access the videos, photos and other notes collected by the device.

There is therefore still a lot of vagueness around this device, which will have a lot to do to convince. Humane should say more soon.
