Priced at $699, this device comes in the form of a compact and lightweight square body, weighing only 34 grams. It attaches easily to clothing using a magnetic battery.
The design of the AI Pin is designed to be both practical and aesthetic. Its small size and light weight make it easy to carry and use on a daily basis. The magnetic battery, which attaches to the back of the device, not only supplies it with power, but also keeps it securely in place on clothing.
A first technical disassembly
Although the manufacturer did not wish to confirm the exact composition of the AI Pin when it was launched last November, the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has released a teardown of the device that reveals some interesting information.
The rear of the device is dominated by a charging coil which is used to charge the small 281 mAh battery from AI Pin. To use the pin throughout the day, it must necessarily be connected to the external battery of the magnetic base.
Examining the motherboard is equally intriguing. We discover that Humane uses an SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, a mid-range chip from 2019. Although it has an AI accelerator, this chip is too slow for complex AI models. This is why the AI Pin mainly relies on an Internet connection for most of its functions and is only sold with a paid subscription, which already includes the 4G mobile subscription.
Tiny components for advanced technology
The camera for AI object recognition, the ToF sensor for gesture control and the laser projector for the Laser Ink Display are remarkably small. The inscription on one of the flexible cables reveals that the projector is called internally Lunar Sky Module.
The AI Pin is also full of little hidden surprises. For example, registration Lorem Ipsum on the cover of the charging coil, or the inscription “ Made with trust, Truth + Joy » on the lid above.
