Humanitarian aid trucks enter the Gaza Strip

Several trucks loaded with humanitarian aid began entering the Gaza Strip via the Rafah crossing point, the only opening not controlled by Israel, on Saturday October 21.

They must come to the aid of the 2.4 million Gazans, deprived of water and electricity due to the siege imposed by Israel since Monday October 9, following the attack by the Islamist movement Hamas, two days earlier. With one truck for around 100,000 inhabitants, this aid is considered insufficient by humanitarian associations.

This is a drop in the ocean of needs that currently exist in Gaza. For a small comparison, before the war, there were around 300 to 400 trucks returning to Gaza every day. », Explains Léo Cans, head of mission for Médecins sans frontières in Palestine.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also called for “sustainable and uninterrupted humanitarian access through the Rafah border post”, after its opening to a first humanitarian convoy.
