Humanitarians killed in Gaza: Netanyahu admits “unintentional” Israeli strike

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted on Tuesday that seven employees of the American NGO World Central Kitchen killed in Gaza were killed by an “unintentional” Israeli strike.

“Unfortunately yesterday (Monday) there was a tragic incident where our forces unintentionally hit innocent people in the Gaza Strip. This happens in a war, we will check until the end, we are in contact with governments and will do everything to ensure that this never happens again,” he said from the hospital where he underwent an operation for a hernia on Sunday evening.

“This happens in a war, we will check until the end, we are in contact with the governments and will do everything to ensure that this never happens again,” he added.

An ongoing investigation

Earlier on Tuesday morning, army spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari conveyed “the most sincere condolences of the Israeli army to the families and the extended family of World Central Kitchen.” “We will open an investigation to further examine this serious incident. This will help us limit the risk of such an event happening again,” he also indicated.

This “tragic incident yesterday (Monday) evening occurred due to a strike by the Israeli army, and we are investigating the circumstances,” another military spokesperson told AFP, adding that “the Chief of Staff, General Herzi Halevi, will personally review the findings of the initial investigation this (Tuesday) evening.”
