NOTew twist in the soap opera on the rule of law in Hungary: the Commission replied by letter to the Council on Friday, maintaining its estimate of the financial deduction to be made from the Hungarian cohesion funds under the “rule of law” conditionality. Council diplomats (representing Member States) had asked the Commission to deepen its assessment to better take into account the latest efforts of the Hungarians to fulfill the 17 commitments to which they had subscribed and translated into law.
