I am a fan of the film Lolita Despite Me with Lindsay Lohan and here is my opinion on Mean Girls version 2024

This Wednesday, January 10, Mean Girls is released in theaters. This is the modernized version of the cult “Lolita Despite Me”, released in 2005. I was 15 when it came out, in the middle of adolescence and therefore right on target. I was able to see the new film in preview and here is what I thought of it.

The famous Regina George and his band of Plastics are back! Almost 20 years after the release of Lolita in spite of myself, this remastered version brings the awesomeness Tina Fey brings its touch of modernity and updated lessons to the new generation. While the first film Mean Girls (in its original title version) marked the adolescence of many spectators, including mine, since I was exactly 15 years old when it was released, the 2024 version promises to captivate an equally enthusiastic audience.

While Lindsay Lohan strutted in a sublime dress during a preview in New York, singer Alizée delighted thirty-somethings in Paris with her famous song “Moi Lolita”, before moving on to French viewing. Absolutely a fan of the version with Lindsay Lohan, I was both very excited and worried about what was going to happen the adventures of Cady Heron in the jungle of current adolescence. The film is released this Wednesday, January 10, 2024 in theaters and here is my opinion on this return to the high school corridors.

A new generation, the same problems

While the original film explored the complex social dynamics of high school, “Mean Girls 2024” tackles the challenges facing teenage girls today. Social networks, academic pressure and unrealistic beauty standards are all themes addressed in an intelligent and hilarious way. Because yes, first good point, we laughed a lot during the session. Self-deprecation is at the heart of the comic dynamic and it feels good.

A casting full of surprises

The original film introduced talented actresses who became pop culture icons, like Linda LohanAmanda Seyfried or even Rachel McAdams. In “Mean Girls 2024,” a new cast of promising young talents bring to life characters as memorable as their predecessors. Expect to be wowed by the exceptional chemistry of this new cast… accompanied by a few surprises that made me jump out of my seat!

They sing, they even sing a lot!

The biggest difference to note between the two films is in the format. Indeed, “Mean Girls 2024” is getting closer to the musical comedy, as there are so many sung scenes. Too much ? Maybe a little to my taste, because I didn’t come to see Glee! Moreover, a scene in the film itself makes fun of these sung moments, which reassured me that I had not become an old housewife in two decades. However, the music remains catchy and my session partner even plans to add the tracks to her playlist. Since I’m nice, I’ll slip it here for you to form your own opinion!

Lolita in spite of myself, heritage preserved!

For fans of the original film, this adaptation is a celebration of the past while introducing new points of view. The scenario is followed to the letter, while conforming to the tone of its time. The winks and subtle references to the events of the first film will be a treat for fans, creating a link between the two generations of Lolita.

To the question “should you go see Mean Girls 2024?”, my answer is unequivocal: yes! Of course, I have grown up and I no longer feel as directly concerned by the vicissitudes of these young high school students. But the film offers an entertaining and thoughtful experience, full of humor and important messages. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or new to the world of The Plastics, this film promises to be a must-have addition to the cinema culture of 2024. Get ready to laugh, think, and fall back in love with the hilarious yet surprisingly relatable world of “Mean Girls”!
