This Monday, December 11, Gabriel Attal announced an experiment for the return of a unique outfit to school. Thanks to the uniform, the government hopes find harmony in schools, in this climate of school harassment. In England, the uniform is something “normal” and never questioned. So what are the advantages or disadvantages of this unique outfit? Professors responded in the columns of HuffPostincluding Maria, a French expatriate in Ealing, but also Sophia and Andrew, of English nationality.
“The students all dress the same way in my school, which is very cosmopolitan. It is impossible to distinguish whether they are rich or poor. For me, it’s a great equalizing tool.” Andrew explains. If students have few opportunities to show off their wealth, “the coat is the only way to distinguish them. But as soon as they walk through the door of the establishment, they have to carry it in their hand.” specifies the professor of politics and history.

The advantages of the uniform according to teachers in England
Another advantage of the uniform: “It takes the burden off the family to buy the latest fashionable clothes and lots of different outfits,” Sophia analyzes. And Andrew added: “Most schools have second-hand stores. Some can even donate uniforms to families in difficulty.” However, Sophie specifies that the uniform does not really help fight against school bullying. “It’s one less subject for students to be bothered about. But there are plenty of other reasons why a student may be bullied.” Sophia says.
Before specifying that the uniform still allows students to de-stress about the outfits they wear. However, Maria, who completed her schooling in France, does not share Sophia’s point of view regarding school bullying. “I didn’t wear any marks during my schooling. And the children didn’t hesitate with me. I was quite resilient and didn’t die from it, but I imagine it can affect other children.” According to the teacher and her experience, not wearing designer clothes can unfortunately play a role in harassment. Wearing a uniform would therefore remedy this problem.
