In the early 1990s, Mathilde Seigner was one of the students of the prestigious Cours Florent. But at the time, the actress had trouble taking the advice of her teachers, including Francis Huster or Isabelle Nanty.
“We always need to learn”. In the columns of Nous Deux, Mathilde Seigner confides with an open heart about her need for transmission. “I do a job of meetings in which we learn every day. (…) Nothing is fixed, we no longer have the same voice, the same face. (…) It’s like in life, you learn from your mistakes“, assures the actress. If she holds a very measured speech today, this has not always been the case. In her youth, Mathilde Seigner did not always like being directed or even criticized by her peers. Like many actors and actresses, she studied acting at Cours Florent, before making her first film appearance in 1994, alongside her sister Emmanuelle Seigner in Le Sourire. And at the time, she had teachers who were very well known to viewers.
“Francis Huster and Isabelle Nanty, whom I met when I started out, told me things that inspired me, but I was quite rebellious by nature, so I didn’t really like it”, remembers Mathilde Seigner in the columns of We Two. Years later, the actress is finally grateful for what her elders have passed on to her. His two professors at the prestigious Cours Florent but that’s not all. “Michel Galabru, who was my teacher, gave me simple and clear advice. Vincent Lindon, Antoine Duléry or, recently, Richard Berry are people who have also guided me”, she continued with our colleagues. Especially as Mathilde Seigner assures us: “It’s not in my nature to give advice, to be in a posture of transmission”.
Francis Huster: “The Florent course gave me all the freedom to teach them to be themselves”
Like her, other well-known actors were students of Isabelle Nanty and Francis Huster. This is particularly the case of Elsa Zylberstein, who, unlike Mathilde Seigner, has very good memories of the actor’s lessons. “We were all in love with him. I was fascinated and terrified”, she joked in the columns of Madame Figaro. Professor of the famous free class of Cours Florent, where he himself was a student, Francis Huster also keeps fond memories of his time there. “What makes me most proud is that all these actors Vincent Lindon, Isabelle Nanty, Isabelle Carré, Cristiana Reali, Isabelle Adjani, Guillaume de Tonquédec… have learned to play in tune, confided the actor in the columns of the Dispatch. The Florent course gave me all the freedom to teach them to be themselves, instead of acting in reference to other actors.”
