“I had no more life”: the former Parisian Bruno Rodriguez returns to his leg amputation

It’s the start of a new life for Bruno Rodriguez. Victim of persistent pain in his right leg, the former striker decided to have an amputation to shorten his suffering. About ten days after the operation, he returned, this Wednesday, in the Republican Lorrain, on his ordeal and the reasons which led him to amputation.

In recent years, the player passed by Bastia, Metz, PSG or Lens has lived through a real hell. The fault of a right ankle which made him suffer atrociously. In question, the sprains and the many infiltrations he has suffered throughout his career. “Following all the infiltrations that I made during my career, the sprains that I had, we tried to repair, more or less, what was possible and that could not be done. But there, I was in too much pain. I had no more life”, he explained to the Republican Lorrain.

Faced with this suffering that has become daily, he opted for a radical decision. “We made the decision to cut,” he said. I was at a standstill. I couldn’t do anything anymore, I couldn’t drive anymore, I couldn’t go out. It wasn’t easy. The last few years have not been pleasant.

And if “the decision was difficult to make”, he now feels “almost relieved”. “I take it rather well”, assured Bruno Rodriguez, specifying that the operation had “gone well”. And he now wants to turn the page and move on. “I can’t wait to see what it’s going to be like: now there are pretty good materials, so I think it should be fine,” he said.

In this particularly difficult moment, he received many messages of support to help him overcome this ordeal. “I was very, very surprised. With social networks, it has taken on a rather impressive scale. I had a lot of support from a lot of people: supporters of Paris Saint-Germain, FC Metz, from everywhere, from Gervais Martel, the former president of Lens, Bastia also much supported. Many former players have called me. It proves that I left good memories, I’m happy, it puts balm in the heart, ”he slipped.

As on the pitch, Bruno Rodriguez has in any case no intention of giving up and hopes that his case can serve as an example to prevent other players from experiencing the same situation. “I’m like I’ve always been on the pitch, a fighter. We have no choice: either we move forward or we give up, and I’m not like that. It is for this reason that I would like to try that my case serves everyone, ”he insisted. A beautiful lesson in courage.
