Everyone remembers this front page of Paris Match in May 1997, which featured Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon. An edition released on newsstands just before the launch of the 50th Cannes Film Festival (the 77th begins soon), an event to which these two sacred monsters of French cinema had not been invited. This Thursday, April 18, 2024, their sons wink back at them, by taking their turn on the cover of the magazine, taking similar poses.
In this interview, Anthony and Paul talk about their friendship, as well as, precisely, their fathers. The first notably admitted that he was “a little jealous” of his friend: “I happened to envy his father, a close-knit clan leader who took care of his children and took them around the world. At home, it was different, the clan spirit was a utopia.“
Anyone who comes out with a new novel called Bastingage does not insinuate that Alain Delon was not a good father: “I am the father of three children and I have learned that, in this field, everyone does what they can. What I do know, however, is that when I needed it most, mine was able to give me the love that allowed me to build myself.“

He adds : “When I needed him, he was there. Our relationship has had ups and downs, due to our characters, his relationship to love. But through the times, we were always there for each other. Standing, facing the wind. These last few months, I think, have proven my loyalty.”
