“I hid”: 50 Shades of Gray reviews, don’t talk to Jamie Dornan about it!

Irish actor Jamie Dornan recently spoke about how badly he experienced the critical reception of the sulphurous “50 Shades of Grey”.

Jamie Dornan rose to international fame with the sultry erotic trilogy 50 Shades of Grey. If the Irish actor absolutely does not regret having starred in these films which were a great success at the worldwide box office, he did, however, have a particularly hard time with the bad reviews which accompanied the theatrical release of the first part. .

In 2015, Dornan, who replaced an actor at the last minute to play the character of Christian Grey, completely fled to the countryside as he was having difficulty experiencing the reception given to the first film. With the feeling that he absolutely had to protect himself from the tumult outside…

“I hid”says Jamie Dornan during the recent BBC Sounds’ Desert Island Discs podcast. “I had just gotten incredible reviews for the show The Fall, which had BAFTA nominations. But the madness that surrounded 50 Shades of Gray almost made it invisible. Sam Taylor-Johnson, the director of the film, left us her house in the countryside. We hid for a while, just to be a little out of the world.”

“It was a bit ridiculous.”

“50 Shades of Gray made so much money that two or three other films were greenlit overnight”continues the 41-year-old actor. “It was a little strange, a little ridiculous. I knew I was contractually bound to make two more films and that there would be more damnation to come.”

Jamie Dornan concludes by highlighting what, for him, is injustice. “I’ve just received some very glowing reviews of my recent work, and there aren’t many people who don’t mention 50 Shades of Grey”notes the one we recently saw in the credits of the series The Tourist. “A lot of people say, ‘He’s great, but let’s not forget that time when he wasn’t.’ Despite all that, do I regret being in those films? No.”
