“I just want…”: Gerard Pique speaks out for the first time on his split with Shakira

A few weeks after Shakira attacked him in song, Gerard Pique came out of silence. The footballer sent a clear message to his ex-wife by referring to their two children.

He will have taken his time … If Shakira has not ceased to attack her ex-husband since their media divorce, Gerard Piqué preferred to be silent, while taking advantage of his new girlfriend. But this Tuesday, March 14, the footballer has spoken out for the very first time since announcing their split. If he decided to speak, it was to respond to his ex, who attacked him in a vitriolic song: “You changed a Ferarri for a Twingo, a Rolex for a Casio”, “You left me the mother-in-law for a neighbor, with the press at the door and debts to the taxman”. On the airwaves of RAC1, Gerard Piqué explained that he had “listen” this song, without saying what he thought of it. On the other hand, he did not hesitate to tackle Shakira by evoking their two children.

“We have a responsibility, those of us who are parents must protect our children. Everyone makes their own decisions. I just want my kids to be okay. I have always had a close relationship with my childrenexplained the father of Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7. Nothing makes me happier than making my sons happy, says Pique. Everyone makes the decisions they think are best. I do things a certain way, I try to do them the best way.” In the rest of this interview, the footballer confided that he was fulfilled in his new daily life as a divorced man: “I’m fine, I’m happy. I can’t wait to keep doing things and for Barça to keep winning”.

Shakira: “I had a very difficult year”

Like him, Shakira also spoke about it. “I had a very difficult year after my separation, and writing this song was very important to me. It’s a healthy way to channel my emotions”, she explained in front of Jimmy Fallon. The singer, who claims to have been deceived by the father of her two children, now wants to be a representative for those who are going through the same thing. “I have a community of women who have been through the same things as me, who think like me, who feel what I feel, who have had to put up with so much bullshit like me, Shakira added. I wrote this song for myself, but I also feel like it was meant for so many women who needed a platform and a voice to represent them in so many ways.”
