“I no longer recognize her”: Jean-Yves Le Drian shocked by the words of Valérie Pécresse

On the set of C à vous, Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister of Foreign Affairs, spoke about the last speech by Valérie Pécresse, of which he underlines a new closeness to the far right.

Monday February 14, Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine welcomed Jean-Yves Le Drian on the set of It’s up to you on France 5. Facing the columnists, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs spoke about several current events, including the last speech by Valérie Pécresse.

During her last speech, the LR candidate for the presidential elections formalized her turn towards a radical right by using several elements of familiar language from the far right, during her speech held on Sunday February 13 at the Zenith in Paris. “No fatality, neither to the big downgrading, nor to the big replacement”publicly declared Valérie Pécresse, citing in her speech a conspiracy theory invented by neo-Nazi groups. “I want to make French people at heart, and not French people on paper”, she asserts, thus taking up a term highlighted by the National Front to define the French people of immigrant origin. “Marianne is not a veiled woman”can we also hear him say.

Jean-Yves Le Drian: “I didn’t see her drifting like that”

This strategy did not escape Jean-Yves le Drian, who commented on the candidate’s speech, in the course of her invitation to the set of It’s up to you. The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his surprise at the speech of the candidate, who had always defined herself as coming from a moderate rightin opposition to a radical right. “There, Valérie Pécresse, I no longer recognize her (…) She represented the moderate right (…) I did not see her drifting like that”he commented in front of Patrick Cohen, about the candidate who hired a former flagship columnist for It’s up to you.

For Jean-Yves Le Drian, Valérie Pécresse uses and abuses redundantly elements of language associated with the far right, and this new strategy could harm her. “I’m not sure that with such a drift, Madame Pécresse is in the second round”said the minister married to Maria Vadillo.

This is not the first time that Valérie Pécresse has been on the hard right. A few months ago, candidate LR had already dared to make a reference to shocking remarks by Nicolas Sarkozy.
