“I remain surprised”, a resident of Vernet questions the accident theory

A little over a week after the discovery of bones belonging to Émile, investigators continued their investigations in Vernet without being able to find the rest of the body around the town of Vernet. A regular visitor questions the theory of the accident and gives his version of the facts.

Several investigations concerning the disappearance young people are causing concern and mobilizing the authorities across the country. After the discovery of the body of Pablo in Marigny-Chemereau (Vienne) on Tuesday April 2, that of a young man of 18 years old was fished out in the Sèvre Nantaise near Moncoutant-sur-Sèvre (Deux-Sèvres) on Thursday 4. His identity remains to be confirmed , but it could well beErwan Blais, disappeared a few weeks earlier. At the same time, the bodies of a man and a woman were found on a hiking trail, this time in Portugal, but the investigations are undeniably linked to the search for a French couple originally from Tarn-et-Garonne.

But it is undoubtedly the discovery of skull bones ofEmile which has been calling out more for several days. A hiker picked up the remains of the human skeleton of the two and a half year old boy when his grandparents reported his disappearance on July 8, in the town of Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). More precisely, it is very close to the hamlet of Haut Vernet where the family has a property that the macabre discovery was made by this regular visitor and whose behavior is intriguing.

Was Emile’s body moved?

The public prosecutor announced that the experts were continuing their investigation in order to determine the causes of Émile’s death, without succeeding at the moment. While the town has been sealed off, with the mayor François Balique keen to protect his residents from the media impact of this affair on their daily lives, local residents are questioning this discovery and giving their uncompromising opinion. For many of them, the accidental track is not the one to favor. This is the case of a resident who openly mentions the possibility of a kidnapping, while a hunter is in turn more cautious when he expresses his astonishment.

Asked by Le Figaro this weekend, Stéphane Chevrier – the president of the Vernet hunting society – knows very well the places where the bones were found. “The slopes under the Ubac are significant, with a steep drop, and the water gullies to accumulate at the bottom and form these famous torrents. We can also describe this place as steep and narrow”he explains, while emphasizing that the trail in question is very popular, as much by hikers as hunters and gatherers. “This surprises me a lot. I’m still surprised that no one came across the body. or at least some traces during all these months, if he was really there”. Half-heartedly, he suggests that the bones could simply have been deposited in this precise location, a few days after a scenario was orchestrated in the hamlet.

Still around a hundred gendarmes deployed

However, Stéphane Chevrier does not completely exclude the accidental track which is favored by investigators at the moment. “There are significant hollows in the upper part of the Valley. We can imagine a fall in one of them, possibly fatal, and say that if the place was not searched, it could have sheltered the body before the waters move it later”he concluded.

The excavations continue and, according to BFM TVthe system remains the same for the coming week: around a hundred gendarmes remain mobilized in Vernet and its surroundings. “To facilitate the work of investigators, the municipal decree prohibiting access to Haut-Vernet, which was to end this Sunday, has also been extended until April 15”, according to our colleagues. Émile’s family first spoke out shortly after the discovery of his bones, but they now prefer to remain silent while waiting to learn more about the conditions of his death.
