“I scroll on Facebook. Three friends of friends fell in battle liberating the southern and eastern territories”

Olga and Sasha are two Ukrainian sisters. The first is 34 years old and is a wine merchant in Paris, where she has lived for seven years. The second, aged 33, lives in kyiv with her parents and grandmother. Recently, she has been working remotely for a French digital communication agency. The two sisters have accepted, since the beginning of the conflict, to keep their logbook to M The magazine of the World. This week, Olga, from Paris, and Sasha, about to resign and go on vacation, are fervently following the progress of the Ukrainian counter-offensive.

Olga: I have no motivation for anything lately. Neither for work nor for singing, nothing. I give money to the army. To buy drones, thermal underwear for military women, prostheses for soldiers and injured children.

Sasha: My last week of work at the agency has begun. I have the feeling that this is the beginning of a new period of my life, which will be determined by more conscious activities. I’m looking forward to our trip with mom to the Carpathians. For the first time in the past six months, I will be leaving 500 kilometers from home.

Last bombardment on our nuclear power plant in Zaporizhia yesterday, just before the conclusions of the IAEA mission [Agence internationale de l’énergie atomique]. The last reactor was disconnected from the Ukrainian electricity grid. The sole objective of the rachists [contraction de « russe » et de « fasciste »], is to make our existence as difficult as possible for as long as possible. They don’t give a damn about the decision of this international organization.

I don’t watch many movies or series anymore, my life offers the most interesting scenarios. The videos of our heroes fighting at the front, the images of battalions in front of the signs of the liberated cities, Kyiv [Kiev, en ukrainien] which is becoming militarized with, everywhere, groups of soldiers, camouflage cars, some of which are marked with the number 200 [le code utilisé pour les soldats morts]. My heart stops for a second when I see one, then I feel deep gratitude.

Today Ukraine’s great friend Boris Johnson quit and outspoken anti-Putin Liz Truss [Olga et Sasha ont choisi de ne pas mettre de majuscule à poutine, russe et russie], became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I look at the photo of her meeting with Elizabeth II and wonder how much longer this incredible woman will be with the British people.
