“The Truth if I Lie” offered Aure Atika one of her most memorable roles. To the point of relaunching a career that she thought she would abandon… but also of sticking to her a little too much.
It was at the age of 9 that Aure Atika made her first appearance on screen, in L’Adolescente by Jeanne Moreau. Following training courses (law, Ecole du Louvre) and odd jobs, she was spotted, thanks to a Polaroid, by a casting agency who sent her for trials.
This is how she landed the leading role in Sam suffice by Virginie Thévenet in 1992. A career on the small and big screen already thirty years old, and rather regular.
However, she almost gave up her profession at the beginning, before she finally found success with La Vérité si je mens. Thomas Gilou’s film has arrived “at a time in my life when I had already filmed a little before, but it wasn’t working too well. I had to earn my living, I was all alone, my mother was already no longer in this world and I had no one to help me.
I told myself that maybe this job wasn’t for me, especially since there were plenty of other things that interested me in life.”
So she went to the casting of the film and tried her hardest. “When you have nothing left to lose, you throw everything away!” she blurted. She will thus reprise her role, that of Karine, twice, in the second film released in 2001, and in the third in 2012. From there will be born her fear of letting herself be trapped in this comedy role.
“Even though I have made auteur films, I was associated with La Vérité si je mens which was a hit. It was a bit of a fight, a battle, to prove that I was not just that This was recognized at the time of the film The Beat That My Heart Skipped of Jacques Audiard where finally, I was able to get away from this label”, confides the actress.
She has since largely shown that she is capable of bouncing back, as with her role in Mademoiselle Chambon which will allow her to win her nomination for the César for Best Supporting Actress, or, more recently, in the solid series Les Bracelets rouge.
