Having become in the space of a few years one of the new recurring faces of French cinema, actress Hafsia Herzi shares the life of former cyclist Nacer Bouhanni. Together, the actress and the former athlete spoke about their love story during an interview given as a duo to the magazine team. If Hafsia Herzi did not want to reveal too many details concerning their first meeting, Nacer Bouhanni was a little more talkative on this subject: “In a train station, six years ago. The Gare de l’Est in Paris“, he said. “A complete coincidence… It goes well with our lives, since we are always on the move. We slowly got to know each other. I didn’t know he was a cycling champion, he didn’t know I acted in the cinema. A real inner love at first sight. Nacer is a simple person, very gentle, very sensitive. He also has character, some in his community have criticized him for it“, added his companion.
For the record, it has been a very short time since Nacer Bouhanni ended his career as a professional cyclist. If he saw himself continuing to ride for a few more years, a terrible accident unfortunately prevented him from doing so. This occurred during the Tour of Turkey in 2022. Asked about it, Hafsia Herzi revealed that she had not witnessed the fall of her companion live that day and fortunately: “The images are so horrible. Given the shock I would have imagined him dead on the spot! I was down south with the kid and trying to get info on his condition. First, I was given a false diagnosis, there was talk of an affected spinal cord, paralysis… He spent around ten hours in a hospital corridor before being taken care of. He sent me videos. It was amazing! I couldn’t wait for him to come home“, explained the actress.
After-effects still present 2 years later
“On the stretcher, I could no longer move my head to the right or left. It was creepy! (…) I still have the after-effects of the fracture of my first cervical vertebra. I have some serious scars and still severe neck pain. I go to the physiotherapist every week and I have to have another MRI because my neck has not regained its full mobility. I launched legal proceedings against the organizers of the Tour of Türkiye. It is not normal for a man to be on the road while the peloton appears at 50km/h. I hit him head on. This accident hastened the end of my career, at only 33 years old. I saw myself riding for at least three more years“, revealed Nacer Bouhanni. A broken professional destiny which nevertheless allows him to spend more time with his family…
