ICE final – Salzburg returns home from Bolzano with a 4-1 victory

After two 1-0 draws in the ICE Hockey League’s best-of-seven final series, there were five goals in the third game. Red Bull Salzburg’s 4-1 win over HCB Südtirol in Bozen on Tuesday was also their first away win so far, which means the Austrian ice hockey champions can make a preliminary decision in the home game on Friday.

Peter Schneider (6th), Dennis Robertson (35th), Mario Huber (43rd) and Thomas Raffl (60th/EN) scored the goals. Salzburg started powerfully and created chances early on. In the 6th minute, Schneider stayed cool in front of the goal and shot in an unstoppable shot. Towards the end of the first period, the South Tyroleans got into the game better, but were unable to take advantage of the guests’ carelessness. In the second third, the opportunities for the home team increased – and also the penalties for both teams. Even with a double advantage, Bozen couldn’t get past the again strong Salzburg goalie Atte Tolvanen. The defender was able to move towards the goal practically unhindered and completed the action with a powerful shot. Huber made it 3-0 after two minutes in the final section, but Ryan Culkin’s goal (45′) kept Bozen alive after a heavy scrum around Tolvanen. But there was nothing more for the home side in the Sparkasse Arena. Captain Raffl hit the empty goal and made the final score.
